Business Applications Quarterly Planning

We launched this initiative in Q4 2021, and we are open to improving what we publish here and how we do that. So let us know if there are ways we can better present our plans.

We will update this page as our activities progress and continue to share updates on RIPE Labs, on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and RIPE NCC Services Working Group (WG) mailing lists, and at RIPE Meetings and other events.

Q2 2026 Plans

Last Updated: 27 March 2026

Item 1: API Keys in the LIR Portal

In the LIR Portal, we currently provide three API keys for our members. We are now looking to improve this functionality, aligning it with the enhanced API key model recently introduced as an alternative authentication method for the RIPE Database.

Status: In progress

Item 2: Email Accuracy Project

Since last year, Yahoo and Google have introduced restrictions on sending emails. We proactively made changes to how we communicate with our members, and we intend to make further modifications to comply with these restrictions.

For this project, we are revising the nature and volume of our messaging and aligning the notifications of our services to be sure that all our emails are sent for the right purposes.

Status: In progress

Item 3: Automate Registry Processes and Reduce Technical Debt

The internal registry services WebUI has become increasingly difficult to maintain. It is based on outdated software with uncommon design patterns, and its admin-like capabilities are used to fill many gaps for which automation is lacking. We will work on extracting and automating this process to streamline daily work and reduce operational risk for the registry and retire a significant portion of our technical debt.

Status: In progress

Item 4: Self-service Assisted Registry Check (ARC)

During 2025, we conducted user testing and interviews with the aim of automating steps of the ARC process and reducing time for users and RIPE NCC staff. After identifying efficiencies that we can make, our team is building a self-service wizard within the LIR Portal, which we would like to test with users at RIPE 92. In Q2, we will review the findings of this pilot and discuss next steps.

Status: In Progress

Item 5: Comply with ISO27001

Implementing the recommendation of the Information Security team for ISO 27001 to provide a structured, auditable framework to meet these evolving obligations and enhance overall information security resilience.

Status: In progress

Item 6: Company Registration Number in the RIPE Database (NWI 21)

Provide registry data to RIPE Database to allow population of the new reg-nr: attribute for RIPE NCC co-maintained organisation objects, containing verified company registration numbers issued by national authorities. This project will handle the initial population and maintain synchronisation of this data between the RIPE Registry and the RIPE Database according to the business rules.

Status: In preparation

Item 7: Charging Scheme 2027

During the General Meeting in May 2026, members will vote on the new charging scheme principles. Based on the outcome of the vote, work needs to be done in our internal applications and external applications to comply with the principles for the yearly invoicing 2027.

Status: In preparation

Community Input on Planning

We want the community to contribute to our plans and suggest additional work items. Please share your comments with us or post them on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion or RIPE NCC Services WG mailing lists. We'll also monitor all the other channels where people talk about these services.

We also invite you to participate in our user research to help us with the development and improvement of the tools and services.

Archived Quarterly Plans
