RIPEstat Quarterly Planning

We launched this initiative in Q2 2022, and we are open to improving what we publish here and how we do that. So let us know if there are ways we can better present our plans.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve RIPEstat, you can share them through the RIPEstat Feature Tracker.

We will update this page as our activities progress and continue to share updates on RIPE Labs, on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and MAT Working Group (WG) mailing lists, and at RIPE Meetings and other events.

Q2 2026 Plans

Last updated: 27 March 2026

Item 1: Continuous UX/UI Improvements

We removed “UI2020” UI on 2 February 2026. Our next point of attention is the routing history visualisation, which we know has high value to our internal and external users.

After this visualisation is updated, we will slowly continue rebuilding the other visualisations to use new technologies and refreshed look and feel. We need this for long-term maintainability and to enable a security feature (content security policy) in RIPEstat.

Status: In progress

Item 2: Supporting RIS/RIPEstat Data Processing Migration

Early this year the RIS team started working on a project to move the big data related to RIPEstat to rented bare metal. This will lead to additional latency between RIPEstat and backend systems.

We are supporting the RIS team with this migration and are looking at methods to hide latency (parallel queries). We will carefully monitor how this migration affects RIPEstat.

Status: In progress

Item 3: API Stability and Rate-limiting

Over the last months we have had spikes in load that caused infrastructure problems. As many of you are aware, RIPEstat has an open, unauthenticated API. We are making infrastructure changes to improve our available rate limits and work on API stability.

Status: In progress

Community Input on Planning

We want the community to contribute to our plans and suggest additional work items. Please share your comments with us on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and MAT WG mailing lists. We'll also monitor all the other channels where people talk about these services.

We also invite you to participate in our user research to help us with the development and improvement of the tools and services.

Archived Quarterly Plans

You can find our plans from the previous quarters on this page. The Q2 2026 plans will be archived once we publish the Q3 2026 planning.
